My husband, Lou, and I founded http://www.boogiedowner.blogspot.com/, a blog that is dedicated to covering all things Bronx. Our goal was to point out all of the great things that are happening in borough (in stark contrast to all the nasty publicity the BoogieDown has received from the rough and tumble 70s and 80s), as well as help do our part to help build up the Bronx blogosphere.
Since moving to Bedford Park from Brooklyn's South Slope in Spring 2007, we've been amazed at the family-friendly nature of our neighborhood. As parents of an 11 month old, we are completely spoiled by having both the New York Botanical Garden and Bronx Zoo within walking distance of our apartment.
When our daughter, Pearl, was about eight weeks old, we decided that I'd work a few more months in my Fundraising/PR position and then stay home as a full-time mom. With no relatives close-by to help with childcare, it made more sense to learn how to live our lives solely on Lou's teaching income rather than pay someone else to watch Pearl.
We're happy to say it was the best decision we ever made. Although finances are tight at times, we feel so damn fortunate that I am able to stay home with Pearl.
After working on our BoogieDowner blog for a few months, it became apparent to me that there is also a strong market in the Bronx for a parenting website with family-friendly tips, advice, and events listings... Hence, the birth of Little BoogieDowner.
